The Cowboy States Reining Horse Association hosted our 3rd annual 3-day event with the Energy City Classic & Derby, which was held at the Cam-Plex in Gillette, Wyoming on June 4-6, 2010. It was proven that this event keeps getting better each year in that we had more than doubled this show with over 350 entries from Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Colorado, Utah, and Idaho! The CSRHA hosted a wonderful, warm Meet and Greet party on Friday night which was well attended by all. We had a wide selection of classes ranging from the NRHA Open to the CSRHA’s 2-Handed Green as Grass classes, so there was something for every level of competitor! We also had a Youth 10 & Under Short Stirrup class which was created by the NRHA to give our youngest riders a chance to participate in reining! The stands were full on Saturday night during the NRHA 4, 5, & 6 Year Old Open Derby, which was won by Jarvis Anderson on board Im So Hollywood, owned by Rick and Sue Coyne from Stevensville, Montana. There was a tie for second place with Cody Halford on Little Chex 499 owned by Rodney Westrum of Williston, North Dakota and Nathan Ivie riding Moonshine N Juice owned by Brenton Hatch of Spanish Fork, Utah. Third place went to Chex DriftinOnCenter owned and ridden by Dean R. Johnson of Vale, South Dakota. The fourth place tie was earned by Eduardo Ribeiro on Unos Shining Jewel owned by Shield H Quarter Horses of Riverton, Wyoming and John Hindman on Cool Wimp, owned by Greg B. Slaughter of Vale, South Dakota. More results and photographs will be posted on our website, Facebook and in the next issue of “The Wrangler” so stay tuned! Peggy Peterson was the big winner from the raffle ticket fund raiser to win the custom made cowboy hat from Roger’s Western Hats. Mike Schmitz won the $175 Wal-Mart gift card; Andy Hawkins won the $100 gift card from Cabela’s; and Mike Manley won the $50 cash! Our silent auction was a big success as well with four large tables overflowing with great items on which to bid. We certainly saw all our organizing, planning, blood, sweat, and tears pay off this year! We hope our reining trainers, competitors, fans, volunteers, officers, and board members were happy with how things developed over the weekend. Take a moment to let us know how we did - we can always use the encouragement!
